-- Tavon Austin Draft Profile --

FFToday's Doug Orth has a nice blog post about West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Ausin, his strengths and weaknesses and his potential as a pro. He's a projected first-rounder and could be a fantasy force in the right environment.

-- In the News --

  • The Patriots are re-working their wide receiver group in a major way this season. As you know, Wes Welker has moved on to Denver and Brandon Lloyd remains an unsigned free agent. A host of free agents have been brought in including Danny Amendola (STL), Donald Jones (BUF), Michael Jenkins (MIN) to go along with Julian Edelman who was recently resigned to a friendly one-year contract worth a maximum of $1.15 million. An offer sheet has been extended to Steelers wideout Emmanuel Sanders as well which the Steelers can match if they choose or receive a third-round draft pick as compensation. In the end, Tom Brady is going to have a revamped receiving corps in 2013 and the fantasy implications will be huge and something we'll be keeping a close eye on over the coming months.

  • The Raiders have added depth at the running back position in the form of Rashad Jennings (JAX). Jennings showed flashes in 2010, averaging 5.5 yards per carry as Maurice Jones-Drew's backup but fell flat when given the starting opportunity last season averaging a lowly 2.2 yards per carry on 101 attempts. He'll split time with all-purpose running back Marcell Reece as Darren McFadden's backup but won't be anything more than a late-round flier in redraft leagues.

  • Surgery for Gronkowski is on hold. Earlier this week it was reported that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski may need a fourth surgery on his injured forearm to remove a plate and ensure there was no infection, resulting in speculation that his Week 1 status was in jeopardy. According to a report from the Boston Herald, the decision for now is to delay the surgery for several weeks, making sure the infection is gone before removing the plate. Once that surgery takes place, a 10-week recovery time is expected. We'll keep monitoring the progress of fantasy football's premiere tight end.

Until next time,

Mike Krueger & Mike MacGregor
